1. Organizing and Running a Workforce Education Program: A guide for labour councils (2009)

Organizing and Running a Workforce Education Program: A guide for labour councils

Authors: South Shore Labour Council, CLC, Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, CLC

Collection: Learning Materials

Based on a successful pilot project offered by the South Shore Labour Council in Nova Scotia, this manual guides labour councils and other groups through the process of organizing and running adult education programs. In particular, the authors have focused on the challenges of running programs for multiple worksites and/or multiple unions.

The pilot project involved teaching computer skills to 13 employees from six different worksites throughout the labour council’s area of jurisdiction. The authors describe the logistics of setting up the course, including finding a computer lab, hiring an instructor, and getting funding.

The authors note that while this project was carried out in Nova Scotia, labour councils in other provinces could use many of the underlying principles to set up their own programs.
