Each module begins with a list of objectives, explaining what the student will be expected to know upon completion of the unit.

While most of the units are designed to be taught by the instructor, the authors note that some can be studied by the student on his own.

Some of the formula sheets offer general mathematical information, like the formulas for determining area and volume, while others are oriented specifically to the water/wastewater sector and contain information about such topics as flow rates, sludge density index, and solids retention time.

The program is designed to be delivered in seven sessions, each one seven hours long, and the guide includes detailed instructions on what is covered in each session.
