This is the final report of a committee established in New Brunswick in the spring of 2005 with the mandate of developing a sector adjustment strategy for home support workers in that province.

A Report from the Round Table Discussions with Selected Employment Groups
Authors: FMP/Flaman Management Partners Ltd.
Collection: Research Materials
The authors point out that while the Canadian plastics industry is growing rapidly, its workforce is aging and retiring, its traditional labour pool is shrinking, and it is competing with other strong industry sectors for employees. The sector requires a strategy for recruiting and retaining workers from non-traditional or underutilized labour markets.
In 2005, faced with those challenges, the Canadian Plastics Sector Council (CPSC) held a series of four consultation sessions with industry representatives and with representatives of four employment groups: Aboriginals; newcomers to Canada; persons with physical disabilities; and women.
Recommendations that emerged from the sessions included compiling better data about the rate of participation of these employment groups in the industry; developing a strategic communications and outreach strategy; and working with other sector councils in areas of common interest, such as ensuring newcomers become sufficiently proficient in English or French to become productive and safe members of the industry.
