Series: Collection of Texts

Authors: Huntingdon Learning Centre

Collection: Learning Materials

Located in a small community southwest of Montreal in Quebec, the Huntingdon Learning Centre is a non-profit organization that offers workshops, in both French and English, in basic reading, writing and mathematics. It also offers courses in both English and French as a second language for newcomers to the area.

This document is a collection of writings done by learners at the centre in 2010-11. The texts include an account of a trip to a maple sugar bush; memories of helping out on a farm in the 1950s; a description of a favourite television show; and a discussion of the importance of community.

Some of the texts were written by the learners themselves. In other cases, a staff member transcribed the learner’s thoughts

They point out that this document is intended as a set of general guidelines, not a list of set rules. With practice, and by using these principles and techniques, the writer’s confidence will grow.
