----------
(reviewed by Connie Belanger, Ottawa Board of Education for the CONNECT National Newsletter on Adult Literacy and Technology, October 1997, Issue #3)
Explore Canada is a multimedia CD-ROM developed by New Media Language Training in collaboration with Parks Canada. It presents Canadian history, geography and heritage at a level appropriate for low-literacy Canadian adult learners and low-fluency newcomers to Canada. It contains 6 history and 6 geography modules which contain over 50,000 words about Canada, and over 200 images. There are also maps showing the provinces and regions of Canada, which the user can click on to link to information about that area. There are exercises and activities at the end of each module, quizzes, a basic word processor feature and a dictionary.
An accompanying teacher's manual explains the program and offers advice for lesson plans to integrate to Explore Canada into thematic units common to the literacy and ESL classroom.
Operating System: Macintosh or PC with Windows 95 with CD-ROM.
Cost: CD ROM for $40 ( English and French) and includes Macintosh & PC version
