RAPP - Reading And Parents Program: The Multicultural Collection

A Resource manual for literacy programs and teachers of young children

Authors: Kingston Literacy & Skills

Collection: Learning Materials

The Reading And Parents Program (RAPP) was designed to encourage family literacy and help parents support the development of their children’s literacy skills. Program materials can be adapted to produce packs that are suitable for lending to families who have children aged from birth to eight years.

The RAPP pack contains a children’s book; reading, language and math hints; a craft idea; poetry; and activity sheets, all relating to the theme of the book. The book is returned with the pack folder, but the family keeps the rest of the material.

This edition of RAPP focuses specifically on cultural diversity. While the material has been written to be easily understood by parents for whom English is a second language, it is still suitable for all families.

The authors have included the list of books on which the activities are based, along with tips for preparing the packs and running the program.
