More than Words on Paper: Building Literacy One Reader at a Time [Video - 21:10] (2009)

More than Words on Paper: Building Literacy One Reader at a Time [Video - 21:10]

Authors: Literacy Volunteers of Quebec (LVQ)

Collection: Learning Materials

Prepared by Literacy Volunteers of Quebec (LVQ), this video explores the nature of literacy and explores the reasons why people have low literacy skills.

“Low literacy” doesn’t necessarily refer to an inability to read and write. Instead, it refers to a range of difficulties people may experience every day, including problems with reading, writing, doing math, or balancing a budget.

Throughout the video, adult learners talk about how low literacy skills have affected them and share stories of how their lives have changed since they started working on improving their skills.

Several volunteers also describe their experiences tutoring adult learners and what they have gained personally from the experience.

LVQ is a coalition of volunteer community groups that offer literacy services to Quebec's Anglophone population.
