The Construction Sector Council (CSC) held this workshop to introduce a range of approaches to upgrading Essential Skills. The results of the workshop are documented in this report. It includes information on various trade approaches and participants’ suggestions for additional Essential Skills initiatives that would assist the construction industry.
Held in Toronto in May 2010, the workshop brought together industry trainers, trades and apprenticeship deans, coordinators, and instructors from colleges, industry associations and government. Their objective was to share the approaches each group has taken and to show how the tools produced in this initiative are helping to leverage industry resources to provide workplace Essential Skills upgrading.
This document includes all the presentations made at the workshop, including one on the Essential Skills Business Case research undertaken by the Construction Sector Council (CSC) in partnership with the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum and SkillPlan, which illustrated the impact of Essential Skills interventions during apprenticeship.
