This paper was prepared for sector councils and other labour market stakeholders with an interest in exploring skills development in Canada’s three territories. It introduces readers to a number of key issues that are priorities for the North and provides information about some sector councils that are working on solutions to the challenges faced.
The authors note that six councils have already become active in the North: the Aboriginal Human Resource Council; Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council; Construction Sector Council; Cultural Human Resources Council; ECO Canada; and the Mining Industry Human Resources Council. They include details about each council’s initiatives.
The document also includes separate profiles for Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, as well as appendices providing lists of contacts for anyone wanting to partner with those already working in the territories.
The document was prepared by The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC), the coordinating body for more than 35 sector councils and sectorâ€like organizations in Canada.
