National Adult Literacy Database

This document offers examples of writing produced by adult learners taking part in programs offered by the Halifax Community Learning Network (HCLN), a non-profit organization serving Nova Scotia’s capital region.

The works include poetry, opinion pieces, short stories, and personal narratives. One learner describes her journey from a refugee camp in Africa to a new life in Canada, while others write about favourite hobbies, cherished memories, or their goals for the future.

The collection also includes works by tutors and coordinators involved in HCLN’s programs.
