The Voices of the Reading & Writing Center (2010)

The Voices of the Reading & Writing Center

Authors: Reading & Writing Centre of Vancouver Island University, Cowichan Campus

Collection: Learning Materials

This document features the poetry and prose of adult learners at the Reading and Writing Centre of the Cowichan Campus of Vancouver Island University in British Columbia.

The student writers chose their best work for the collection. The stories and poems were written and edited over weeks or months, and some students also added pictures to accompany their writing.

The collection is divided into a number of themes, including stories about school, people stories, opinion pieces, and the outdoors.

Many students wrote about their experiences as adult learners, while others shared memories of beloved family members. There are opinion pieces about bullying and about provincial politics. Many of the poems in the collection deal with nature.
