Authors: Louise Nichol

Collection: Research Materials

This report summarizes a research project on current practices that exist for providing employment counselling across rural and northern Manitoba. Research has indicated that rural and northern workers providing these services do not have equal access to supports, resources, referral agencies, or training opportunities available to their urban counterparts.

Participants in the study were rural and northern Manitoba employment counsellors who worked for either First Nations reserves or the Manitoba government. They discussed job and system supports they felt were necessary to their jobs. Stakeholders worked collaboratively with participants to establish conclusions and recommendations for action.

This report includes background information on the topic; a literature review; an explanation of the methodology; discussion of the findings; and a conclusion and recommendations.
