This is a study guide to accompany the comic book “Darkness Calls,” which focuses on a teenager contemplating suicide because of the pressures in his life. With the help of an Elder, he combats the evil urges that threaten to destroy him. The comic book was produced by the Healthy Aboriginal Network (HAN), a non-profit organization that promotes the health, literacy and wellness of First Nations youth through the use of visual art.
The study guide includes pre-reading activities and well as other activities focusing on vocabulary, language skills and reading comprehension. There is also a selection of extended learning activities to complete the guide.
