"Summer in Smallywood" is a series of three online games designed to improve competence in the Essential Skills of oral communication, working with others, and thinking skills. It is aimed at young adult learners between the ages of 15 and 30.

This document provides further activities for the learner to do after finishing playing the games. The goal is to reinforce the skills learned by applying them to the learner’s own life.

Some of the questions in this document will require the use of the Ontario Skills Passport website, which can be accessed by clicking on: http://skills.edu.gov.on.ca.

This facilitator’s guide introduces "Summer in Smallywood," a series of three online games with accompanying learning materials, designed to enhance the employability of young adult learners (ages 15-30) by improving their competence in three Essential Skills: oral communication; working with others; and thinking skills.

"Summer in Smallywood" is designed to be used in youth-focused settings like high school classrooms; employment and literacy programs; youth drop-in centres; and companies that employ young people.

In this document, the authors begin by explaining the rationale for the program. For each of the three targeted skills, they explain what the player will learn; offer suggestions for guiding group discussion; and provide a list of further online resources.

"Summer in Smallywood" is a series of three online games, aimed at learners ages 15-30, designed to improve competence in the Essential Skills of oral communication, working with others, and thinking skills.

In this self-assessment document, learners are asked to read a series of statements for each of the three skills and decide whether they would rate their personal skill level as good, average or needs improvement for each one.

After playing the games and completing class discussions and activities, the learners return to the self-assessment and decide whether they now have a better understanding of each skill.
