Series: Learning on Demand: Numeracy - The Basics - Video Tutorials
Authors: Workplace Education Manitoba (WEM)
This video tutorial offers learners the chance to practise the skills required to multiply with decimals.
It includes three problems of increasing complexity, each involving decimals. Learners are asked to pause the video while they work out the problems on their own.
Then they can restart the video and see the instructor’s detailed solutions to the problems.

Literacy and Homelessness Information & Referral Protocol
Authors: Jeanine Luce, Robert Davis, Renaud Saint Cyr, Judi Snively, Jayne Caldwell, Monica Waldman, Dawn Antone
This document, a result of a project entitled "StreetReach", is an information and referral protocol for use by agencies serving people who are homeless to assist them in referring potential learners to literacy services.
The object of this protocol is to provide staff in drop-ins and shelters information which will enable them to: understand and be aware of the issue of literacy; identify a person with literacy issues; talk to the client regarding literacy needs in a safe and supportive way; and find out the best place to refer participants with literacy needs.

This math video tutorial introduces multiplication and division with mixed fractions.
The instructor explains the steps required, including converting a mixed fraction to an improper one; carrying out the operation; and reducing the resulting fraction to its simplest form.
He points out that with multiplication and division problems, unlike addition and subtraction ones, there is no need to find a common denominator.

This math video tutorial looks at order of operations as it is applied to problems containing mixed fractions. The order of operations specifies that if a problem contains some combination of calculations, the multiplication and division components must be completed before the addition and subtraction ones.
The instructor uses several problems to illustrate the steps required, including converting mixed fractions to improper ones; carrying out operations in the correct order; and reducing the resulting fraction to its simplest form.
The problems get more complicated as the video progresses.

This video tutorial offers further practice in carrying out math problems involving mixed fractions.
It presents three problems of increasing complexity. Learners are asked to pause the video, work out the problems, then restart the video to see the instructor’s detailed solutions.
Because each problem involves a combination of calculations, the learner must also apply the order of operations to solving these problems. The order of operations specifies that if a problem contains some combination of calculations, the multiplication and division components must be completed before the addition and subtraction ones.
