Public Works and Maintenance Labourers – Essential Skills Training (2012)

Public Works and Maintenance Labourers – Essential Skills Training

Series: Essential Skills Training - LLEO

Authors: Literacy Link Eastern Ontario (LLEO), Prince Edward Learning Centre

The objective of this occupational curriculum, which is based on the job profile for public works and maintenance labourers, is to help learners prepare for entry-level positions in the workforce.

The first section, aimed at learners, includes readings and learning activities that explain the nature of public works and Essential Skills. It also contains information about the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system and explains how to find job profiles on the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) website.

Most of the information required by practitioners teaching the curriculum is contained within the modules written for learners. However, the second section of the document does provide additional information, as well as guidelines for evaluating the learning activities.

The authors point out that this curriculum is not intended to be the sole means of teaching the required Essential Skills. Learners will still need other resources and activities to support this material.
