Working Together, Working Well

This manual is designed to help instructors teach the skills required to work in a group.

The learning activities in the manual have been field-tested within Literacy and Basic Skills programs in both rural and urban settings in Ontario. Learner levels covered in the field tests ranged from LBS Level 1 to Level 4, equal to Level 1 and 2 in the Essential Skills.

Topics covered in the manual include understanding and working within the dynamics of a group; ensuring that a team’s purpose and objectives are clear; being open and flexible to the thoughts and opinions of others; recognizing and respecting diversity, individual differences and perspectives; providing feedback in a constructive manner; contributing to a team by sharing information and expertise; leading or supporting when appropriate; and problem solving and managing and resolving conflict.
