Understanding cancer: Teacher's guide

Series: Healthy Life Series

Authors: John Rice, Christopher McGruer

ISBN: 978-1-897541-15-9

This guide accompanies the fictional story of a man’s conversation with his 11-year-old granddaughter about cancer. A relative has recently died of the disease and a schoolmate has been diagnosed with leukemia. The elder and the little girl discuss the truths about cancer: how one gets it; what the treatments are; and the steps that may prevent cancer in the future.

The guide includes questions and answers to test students’ comprehension and assignments to help students assess their own work. There are also ideas for group and self-directed activities.

The authors have also included links to websites about cancer.
