Report on Consultations with Adults with Literacy Challenges

Fact Sheet

Series: Health and Learning At a Glance

Authors: Sue Folinsbee, Wendy Kraglund-Gauthier, Allan Quigley, Hélène Grégoire

This fact sheet provides a quick summary of the consultations carried out by the Adult Working Group (AWG) of the Health and Learning Knowledge Centre (HLKC) to identify themes, gaps and needs for Canadian adults with literacy challenges.

Participants included both adults with literacy challenges and service providers from Vancouver, British Columbia; Regina, Saskatchewan; Toronto, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; and Lunenburg, Cumberland, and Truro, Nova Scotia.

The report highlights the barriers faced by these people and provides some recommendations to better support their health. Some of these recommendations are directed to policy-makers and others to health-care and service providers.
